Person-Centred Therapy for Neurodivergence

Reach Out

Person-centred therapy offers valuable support for individuals with neurodivergent conditions, such as autism and ADHD, by prioritising their unique needs and experiences. This therapeutic approach fosters self-understanding and personal growth.

Neurodivergent individuals often encounter distinct challenges in daily life, including sensory sensitivities. For example, harsh lighting or persistent background noise in environments like supermarkets can be overwhelming, making it difficult to focus or engage effectively. Additionally, tasks such as organisation, time management, and forward planning can present difficulties, leading to stress in settings like workplaces or public spaces. These hurdles can affect various aspects of life, potentially resulting in frustration and self-doubt.

It’s also crucial to recognise that neurodivergent individuals may experience heightened anxiety, sadness, and other challenging emotions. The strain of navigating a world that often doesn’t accommodate their needs can be both exhausting and isolating.

Emphasising the individual’s perspective can significantly improve their sense of connection and overall well-being, aiding in managing stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

A fundamental component of this approach is establishing a therapeutic alliance—a collaborative partnership between therapist and client built on trust and mutual understanding. As a therapist, I strive to provide empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity in our interactions.

Rather than offering direct advice, this method creates a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, facilitating personal insights and solutions. It’s remarkable how, within the right environment, individuals can discover their own paths to healing and growth.

Even small adjustments can have a significant impact, such as dimming lights or arranging an online conversation before an in-person meeting. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out—I’m here to help!
