What to Expect from Person-Centred Therapy

Day Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Stockport

I’d love to tell you about a therapeutic approach called nondirective psychotherapy. You might also know it as client-centred or person-centred therapy (PCT). Carl Rogers invented this method and it’s all about creating a warm, welcoming space where you can explore your feelings, values, and behaviours without worrying about being judged.

When we meet, you’ll find yourself in a supportive environment where you’re free to lead our chats. I’m here to listen with genuine care and empathy, offering you what we call ‘unconditional positive regard’. Simply put, I accept you completely, just as you are. This can help you grow personally and learn to accept yourself more.

During our sessions, you set the pace and direction of our conversations. I won’t push you one way or another. Instead, I’ll be like a caring companion on your journey. My job is to hear you, understand you, and reflect on your experiences. This can help you gain clarity and insight into your own life.

This approach has shown to be particularly helpful for people dealing with anxiety and depression. By providing a safe, nurturing space, PCT encourages you to find your own solutions and develop a stronger sense of who you are. It’s all about empowering you to uncover your inner wisdom and strengths.

PCT might be especially good for you if you’re after a therapy style that puts you in charge of your personal growth. It’s well-suited for those who prefer to work alongside their therapist and are keen to explore their inner world.

Remember, in this journey, you’re the expert on your life. My role is to provide the supportive environment and guidance that allows your natural tendency towards growth and self-understanding to flourish.

You can reach out to me in different ways – Through email, phone or message.

I will send you a contract and then we can arrange a conversation to ensure you are happy with everything and I can answer any questions you may have.

Alternatively, we can arrange a full session (in-person or online) at a reduced rate of £20 and jump straight into counselling, that way you can see what it is about and if it is right for you. Therapy is about your needs and finding the right type of therapist is essential.
